Susan Renwick

I offer compassionate, practical and culturally responsive counselling for individuals, couples and families navigating life’s challenges. Drawing on extensive clinical experience in Australia and overseas, I support clients with concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, family violence, grief, neurodivergence and major life or career transitions. Together, we can explore your experiences, recognise your strengths and develop greater self-understanding, resilience and self-compassion in a respectful and supportive environment.

Counselling approach

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor, guidance and career counsellor, mental health social worker, registered professional art therapist and teacher. I have extensive clinical experience gained through working in Australia and overseas.

My approach is client-centred and strengths-based, drawing on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, experiential art therapy, EMDR and relationship-focused approaches. I tailor counselling to each person’s needs, experiences and goals.

I am passionate about social justice and recognise that wellbeing is influenced by the broader social and cultural circumstances in which we live. I support clients to prioritise their self-care and develop greater self-compassion, self-acceptance and resilience when navigating life’s challenges.

Who I support

My culturally responsive practice has been shaped by more than 25 years of experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Far North Queensland and the Torres Strait, as well as through my work in Vietnam, Bhutan, China and Myanmar.

I have extensive experience supporting people affected by family violence. I work from a trauma-informed perspective, prioritising safety while helping clients strengthen boundaries, recognise healthy relationship patterns and make choices that support their wellbeing.
