Sanjay Lavoipierre
I’m Sanjay Lavoipierre, a qualified counsellor with a Master of Counselling and over 20 years’ experience teaching yoga and meditation. I offer a warm, compassionate space where you can speak openly, feel heard and explore what matters to you.
My approach recognises the connection between mind, body and emotional wellbeing, while respecting your individual experiences, beliefs and values. I see therapy as a collaborative process: together, we can make sense of the challenges you’re facing, build on your strengths and find practical ways to move towards a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
Counselling approach
My counselling approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity and respect for your individual experience. I offer a supportive, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions and concerns at your own pace. We work collaboratively, guided by what matters to you, with room for both deeper reflection and practical ways to manage everyday challenges.
I recognise the close connection between thoughts, emotions and the body. Where helpful, we may explore mindfulness, awareness of bodily sensations and gentle grounding practices to support you in feeling more settled and connected to yourself. These practices are offered according to your needs and preferences.
My Buddhist practice also informs the compassion and awareness I bring to counselling. You do not need to share these beliefs, as your own values and worldview will guide our work. Together, we can explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, build on your strengths and develop ways of responding to life with greater clarity, flexibility and kindness towards yourself.
Who I support
I welcome children and adults from all walks of life who are seeking support with emotional difficulties, life challenges or a sense of feeling stuck. For children, I adapt counselling to their age, interests and stage of development, supporting them to express their feelings and explore challenges in ways that feel comfortable for them.
Areas we can explore together include:
- Stress, anxiety and overwhelm
- Low mood and emotional difficulties
- Grief, loss and change
- Relationship difficulties and loneliness
- Self-esteem and self-acceptance
- Identity, belonging and LGBTQIA+ experiences
- Life transitions and questions of direction or purpose
- Personal growth, meaning and spirituality
As a gay man, I bring personal understanding of some of the challenges around identity, belonging and acceptance, while recognising that everyone’s experience is different.
I value diversity and aim to create an inclusive space where your identity, culture, beliefs and lived experience are respected. Whether you have a spiritual practice or none at all, our work is guided by your needs, values and goals.
